Orso オルソ

Updated: Mar 20

A Japanese Italian Cuisine Run by a Unique Duo

Located just 10 seconds on foot from Exit 4 of Azabujuban Station is "Orso," an Italian restaurant run by a female owner and a male chef. After accumulating experience in the food and beverage industry, the owner Ms. Tsukahara established "Orso" in Azabujuban in 2014. She partnered with Chef Nakahama, who honed his skills in Italy and perfected them working at famous Japanese restaurants. Now, they pride themselves in providing "Italian-like cuisine in Japan."

Using Experience and Feeling to Find the Best Food Pairings

Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be comforted by the enticing aroma wafting from the kitchen and Ms. Tsukahara's smile. They use a combination of ingredients directly sourced from Italy and Japan’s Miura Peninsula (specifically for fresh fish and vegetables). With a large selection of wine, personally tasted and selected by the owner and chef, they can recommend the best pairings for each dish.

Be sure to enjoy their pasta!

While Carbonara and Amatriciana are recommended, the "Bottarga (Mullet Roe)" pasta is a must-try. In this dish, Japanese Karasumi (Mullet Roe) is used as a topping over chewy pasta and a flavorful oil sauce. The resulting flavor is a unique and rich umami flavor you cannot find anywhere else! For those with an intolerance for gluten, they also have an option to change the regular pasta to gluten-free pasta. Feel free to consult with the staff about other food options!

Whether alone or in a group, visit anytime!

Due to the prevalence of embassies in the area, many international customers visit for lunch meetings or dinners. With both counter and table seats available, it's easy to visit alone or in a lively group. The enticing and friendly atmosphere, appreciated by locals, is undoubtedly due to the meticulous care put in each dish by the chef, and the owner's cheerful personality. Make sure to visit “Orso” the next time you’re in town!
