Looking for a place to enjoy premium Kobe Beef and A5 Wagyu in Tokyo? At Teppanyaki Yamato, expert chefs cook with exceptional skill and care to bring you the best Wagyu experience.

100 Years of Fine Dining
Established in 1925, Mikasa Kaikan, the company running Teppanyaki Yamato, began as a small ice and water shop serving customers near the Kabuki Theater in Ginza. Over the years, the company strategically expanded, evolving into an 8-floor fine dining complex featuring Italian, Chinese, French, and Japanese Teppanyaki restaurants.
Building on this long-standing success, the company opened a second Teppanyaki Yamato in the hidden gourmet hub of Azabujuban on December 19th, 2024. This marked a new chapter of Mikasa Kaikan’s history, bringing exquisite, high-end wagyu courses to both local residents and visiting travelers in Azabujuban.
An Authentic Japanese Teppanyaki Experience
Outside of Japan, Teppanyaki, which translates to “iron plate grilling”, is often misunderstood as a theatrical dining performance with onion ring towers and spatula tricks mislabeled as Hibachi or “barbeque grilling” in Japanese. However, authentic Japanese Teppanyaki is far from the same! In contrast to popular belief, traditional Japanese Teppanyaki focuses less on performance and more on precise technique, quality of ingredients, and quiet mastery.
At Teppanyaki Yamato, the art of traditional Teppanyaki is refined and elegantly presented. The head chef, Takayama-san, who has 30 years of experience, knows exactly how to bring out the natural flavors and textures of wagyu and fresh seasonal vegetables through careful, intentional cooking. Here, it’s not about a flashy performance, it’s about savoring the chefs’ mastery and the exceptional quality of the ingredients.
Fresh Vegetables and A5 Wagyu Sourced in Japan
All ingredients at Teppanyaki Yamato are sourced exclusively from Japan. Seasonal vegetables, such as young corn and Kaga-yasai, heirloom varieties traditionally grown in Kaga prefecture, are carefully selected for freshness and flavor. For their Wagyu, their most popular item is the Kobe Beef, famous both locally and overseas for its rich texture and flavor. Moreover, the restaurant utilizes a dry-aging fridge, enhancing the tenderness and umami taste of Kobe Beef. In addition to Kobe Beef, they also have 5 other Wagyu varieties from all over Japan to discover and try!
Their Signature “Yamato Course”, featuring Premium Kobe Beef
Amongst the variety of courses at Teppanyaki Yamato, their “Yamato Course” is the most popular experience as it showcases the chef’s skills and the season’s best ingredients.
